They are indeed? stopping the fight, and it is not an uncommon thing for dogs to do or attempt to do, even between humans fighting. It likely comes from their wolf ancestry, where the alpha wolf would usually break up fights between the pack members to prevent death and their numbers dwindling, thus ensuring better survival in numbers. It's an instinct thing and probably because the cats are seen as part of the pack (by the owner) the dogs attempt to break them up.

Maybe, but I don't think so. Dogs are known to? imitate their owners, and it looks as if they are looking back at the camera holder after doing it. If what you say is true, the dogs would have tried to injure the cats, rather than throw them a part and then stand their in the middle of them. Do not underestimate the intelligence of social animals, particularly the ones that have been with humans far longer than any other.
